Comprising four new models, the new Satellite range has been developed to offer personal computing solutions to different user segments – from the casual everyday user to those looking to manage and create their own multimedia. The range also sees the introduction of a new touchpad with Multi-Touch Control and a unique Eco function that offers users the ability to manually control – and thus reduce – the amount of energy used in day-to-day computing tasks.
Toshiba’s new Multi-Touch control pad, available on Satellite A500 and U500 models, allows users greater control over their PCs using just the trackpad. Reducing the reliance on conventional scrolling and hard keys, the Multi-Touch control pad provides the ability to use fingers to pinch, swipe or rotate using the trackpad alone, making the new Satellite models the most intuitive yet.
The new range also offers advanced tools that allow users to monitor and manage energy consumption. All models feature Toshiba's Eco utility management system - a tool that allows users to reduce the amount of energy being used while the PC is in operation. Users can easily monitor their power usage, thanks to an easy-to-use graphical tool that allows the user to control the power consumption while the PC is running tasks.

Toshiba Satellite A500
Toshiba’s new Satellite A500 model has been designed for the user that requires powerful multimedia performance. With a 16” Toshiba TruBrite® display, each model combines an aspect ratio of 16:9 with a high definition resolution of 1366x768 – making the Satellite A500 the perfect platform on which to enjoy movies or games on the move.
Powered by the latest Intel and an AMD processing technology, the Satellite A500 comes with high capacity integrated hard disk drives, providing generous amounts of space for a multimedia content libraries. An integrated HD web camera records videos in widescreen format, providing ultimate clarity for web-based video conferencing.
All models feature high-quality Harman Kardon® stereo speakers that provide full-bodied audio. Advanced graphics performance is also provided by ATI Mobility graphics processing technology on selected models, while extensive connectivity offers users greater flexibility to connect to a wide range of external hardware. The Satellite A500 also features a stylish, slot-loading Super Multi Dual-Layer DVD drive on premium models.
The Toshiba Satellite A500 also offers a highly-attractive external design, featuring a unique Toshiba Fusion finish based on In-Mold Rolling technology. A choice of two designs will be available, with a premium chrome-trim model also available in addition to a standard silver paned variation – providing an added design spark to the Satellite A500’s impressive multimedia performance.
Toshiba Satellite U500
Toshiba’s new Satellite U500 features many of the benefits of the Satellite A500 model - but packed into a highly portable design. With its lightweight build, the Satellite U500 excels in blending extreme portability with high quality computing performance. All models offer an ultra-compact body and a 13.3" WXGA Toshiba TruBrite® display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800, providing an excellent platform for the user that typically needs to stay active while on the move.
Powered by Intel CPUs and ATI Mobility graphics processing technology on selected models, the Satellite U500 provides excellent all-round performance, making it great for a number of tasks, such as multimedia content, social networking and basic gaming. A wide range of connectivity options allows users to hook the Satellite U500 up to a number of external peripherals and hardware, and a slot-loading Super Multi Dual-Layer DVD drive on premium models also provides the capacity for DVD playback.
Style-wise, the Satellite U500 has everything it takes to make a big impression, with an elegant Luxe Brown finish, which extends to the inside as well as the exterior. As with the Satellite A500, two design variations will be available, with a premium, chrome-trimmed model available as an alternative to the standard silver-trim design for those that demand style that enables them to stand out from the crowd.
Toshiba Satellite L500 and L550
Toshiba’s new Satellite L500 and L550 models are a duo of widescreen models designed to offer high quality everyday computing performance on a budget. Both models offer attractive, well-built chassis at affordable price points, providing excellent choice for consumers looking to purchase large-screen laptops with more modest resources.
The Satellite L500 offers a 15.6” Toshiba TruBrite® display that provides a HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, while the L550 features 17.3" TruBrite® display with power saving LED backlight technology, packing a HD resolution of 1,600 x 900. Both models offer bright, crisp images, providing perfect conditions for viewing business documents or multimedia content.
Both models offer consumers a selection of processing engines to choose the level of performance that best suits their needs. Both models are powered by the latest Intel processors, although the option to utilise AMD processors is available if required.
The Satellite L500 and L550 models offer a choice of stylish designs, with each machine based on IMR (In-Mold Rolling) technology. Both models feature rolling slim lines which continue inside on an elegant ‘Snow Silver’ surface around a choice of silver or black keyboard with numeric keypad. A four-button multimedia bar provides one-touch access to multimedia functions, while the steel grey cover design provides a contemporary finish.
Intelligent PC management
The entire range of Toshiba Satellite models features Toshiba ConfigFree™ technology pre-loaded, which simplifies network configuration and online access, while Toshiba’s PC Health Monitor is also on-board to give a quick overview of the essential components of the laptop’s health, such as temperature and battery status.
As a responsible global corporate citizen, Toshiba ensures that all laptops are RoHS-compliant, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury and certain other hazardous substances. The new Toshiba Satellite A500 is also compliant to ENERGY STAR® 5.0.
