Take back & Recycling

Packaging
The Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste (94/62/EEC) aims to harmonise national measures in order to prevent or reduce the impact of packaging and packaging waste on the environment.

It contains provisions on the prevention of packaging waste, on the re-use of packaging, and on the recovery and recycling of packaging waste.

In most European countries, packaging waste is collected and treated separately from household waste. As a result, Toshiba participates in different collection and recycling systems for packaging waste depending on the waste collection and recycling procedures in the different European countries. At Toshiba Regensburg Operations, engineers work hard to improve the packaging of Toshiba laptops. Over the last years, the packaging for laptops was optimized to a minimum volume.

Most packaging of final products are free from foam packages. In addition, there are a couple of projects to improve the environmental and economical efficiency of intercontinental logistics. Together with the German Fraunhofer Institut, Toshiba Regensburg Operations developed a computer aided resource efficiency accounting tool to evaluate data on material and energy flows in the logistic area as well as the corresponding costs.
